Asynchronous Quorum-based Protocols for Maximum Neighbour Discovery that Save Power

Abstract

One of the trickiest issues in asynchronous ad hoc networks is the detection of nearby active nodes. Because time synchronisation in these networks is so expensive, the use of asynchronous techniques like quorum-based protocols has gained popularity as a result of their applicability. This is so that quorum-based protocols may ensure that there is at least one timeslot where two nodes with different clock timings cross. It is desirable to have a greater neighbour discovery rate for active nodes, but doing so also increases the active ratio, which adversely affects how much power the nodes use overall and shortens the network lifetime.
