MPEG Video Player Using Dynamic Voltage Scaling
Abstract
MPEG video player consumes more energy when using the static voltage technique. Our article implements a dynamic voltage/frequency scaling (DVS) method, and our player regulates the voltage level for the frames of the following interval based on decoding time prediction. The size and type of the frame predict the decoding time of a frame. We built our mechanism by modifying a standard MPEG1 decoder. Our experiments show that significant amounts of processor energy can be saved while improving video playback QoS.
