AI-Driven Early Warning Systems for Critical Care Units: Enhancing Patient Safety
Abstract
In critical care units (CCUs), early detection of deteriorating patient conditions is vital for preventing adverse outcomes. This paper explores the use of AI and machine learning in developing early warning systems that can identify signs of patient deterioration, such as sepsis, respiratory failure, or cardiac arrest, before they become life-threatening. By analyzing real-time data from vital signs, laboratory results, and patient history, AI algorithms can provide timely alerts to healthcare providers, enabling swift intervention. The paper discusses the integration of AI with clinical workflows, challenges in data quality, and the importance of model accuracy in life-critical settings.
