Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming more and more crucial for industrial applications like traffic monitoring and medical care. More and more "things" will be able to access the IoT as it continues to evolve. How to provide a consistent access mechanism to the IoT is a fundamental and crucial issue given the vast number of heterogeneous "things" that are being used. In this research, we propose an unique IoT access architecture based on field programmable gate array (FPGA) and system on chip (SoC). This architecture can offer a unified access to the IoT for a wide range of low-speed and high-speed devices with related extendibility and configurability. For this design, we used the IEEE 1451.2 standard, and we applied the suggested design to a vehicle monitoring system.
